Photo critique: Let it out!

A portrait shot with a ton of feeling! This was called, "scream out all that crap" it definitely caught my attention! I like the lighting and the extreme close up and the emotion...very cool to look at! This would be a neat photo to frame if you knew this person... :)

Photo critique: Beautiful intense eyes...

As I was looking at photos on flickr, I came across this shot of a young girl's intense eyes. It made me stop and stare into them. That's why I chose this photo. You can't help but wonder what she's thinking, and the fact that her mouth is covered reveals to the viewer how important seeing someone's mouth is. Is she somewhat smiling, is she straight mouthed...you can only guess by looking into her gorgeous eyes...which wasn't hard to look at. I love this portrait shot...it's so intimate.

Photo Critique: Cool mirror image...

I thought this looked really neat. This is a mirror that she's pointing at, and looking at her image. I like the abstract nature of it, and I like the coloring, too. It looks fantasy like.

Photo critique: Icky toddler habits!

I chose to use this photo for critique because I love the toddler aspect of this shot. They really have no clue how dirty things are, or the concept of germs. I also like the fresh lighting in this photo and the close up. Candid moment for sure!

Photo Critique: Roof jumpers!

I took this shot of my teen sons who were jumping roofs! They're insane! The color of the image was so hard to see that I just tweaked it into this...I liked the sillouette effect of them all black against the blue sky. Of course the exaggerated "blue" sky. The color originally was very bland and didn't capture their presence. I like this photo because you're able to see their stance and their body form and the dark quality of it. This is the Hoover Elementary roof in Corvallis. Trouble makers!

Photo Critique: A quiet moment...

I took this photo of my daughter. I loved the quiet moment, and the close up. I also like the mysterious quality, because you can't see her whole face. The colorful sweater adds a sweet feeling, too. Ok, I love children! Just noticed, I have a lot of pics of kids on my blog!

Photo critique: Dependency on Dad...

I saw these two standing right in front of me, and quickly dug through my purse for my camera. I like the big and small effect of man and little boy in this photo. Dad's big hands, with his little boy's hand. It's a simple moment that shows so much love...that's why I took it. Again, at the water fountain in downtown Corvallis.

Photo critique: Waterboy!

I took this photo in downtown Corvallis at the waterfront area. This fountain is turned on in the warmer weather for children to play in. I captured this boy who was letting the water go up his shorts...he and his friends thought this was quite funny...it was! Anyway, I was across the fountain area and tried to zoom in on him.
I purposely exaggerated the color in this photo, because initially I didn't see the rainbow in the background. I like the tones and the "majestic" look of this photo with extreme colors. It feels like childhood. The rainbow was a cool little bonus that I got...that I didn't even see when I took the shot!

I even liked the "glowing" effect the tree branch has to the left of the child in the frame. A fun pic.

Photo critique: Had to turn around!

I was driving home the other day when for some reason I noticed these crosses from the road. I turned my car around and headed back to the front of this church, on Walnut Boulevard in Corvallis. For some reason I couldn't leave without taking a picture.
Although the homes are in the background, I feel this photo is a clean shot...it's not overly cluttered with chaos, and I think the colors are peaceful and visually pleasing. I also like the variety in sizes of the crosses.

Photo critique: Ahoy sailor!

Another action shot! This is a really cool shot because the sailor is so involved. What he's doing requires a little strength (I know, I've done it) and it's a great physical shot. The lighting is also nice in this shot. His hair blowing in the air is also a nice touch and lends more dramatic appeal for an action shot.

Photo critique: Strength and Power

I like the coloring of this photo. The color is very visually pleasing, and it's a strong action shot. I also liked the color of her dress for the background, it all just seems to work, and she as well as her hair coloring has a nice contrast among the background setting.

Photo critique: Deep love

I love this picture! The lighting is so visually pleasing. I really like how the colors pop, and the background is dark in contrast! It really lets the subject show, and the point of the photo. There isn't anything I don't like about this photo! Wonderful, and so nice to look at.

Photo taken by: Dorothy Parker- "Mended Heart"

http://www.flickr.com/

Below is a poem written by Dorothy Parker that was below the photo:

They laid their hands upon my head,
They stroked my cheek and brow;
And time could heal a hurt, they said,
And time could dim a vow.
And they were pitiful and mild
Who whispered to me then;
"The heart that breaks in April, child;
Will mend in May again."
Oh, many a mended heart they knew;
So old they were, and wise.
And little did they have to do
To come to me with lies!
Who flings me silly talk of May
Shall meet a bitter soul;
For June was nearly spent away
Before my heart was whole.

-Dorothy Parker, The False Friends
Photo Critique:

I chose this photo I took of my son. I took this as a candid shot. He was totally involved and I crept up and snapped it. I liked that he was deeply into what he was doing. Jesse (that's his name) wants to be a musician, and he's extremely talented, this prop (his guitar) really helps capture his love of playing music. As cliche as it sounds, music really is his passion.

The picture kind of has a soft tone to it as well, which I felt helped give it a neat feeling. I'm sure there are things in the pic that could be better, but overall, I really like this pic! (and not just because it has my beautiful son in it)!

Photo Critique:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/vesuviano/1335656294/ I chose this photo because of the great lighting. I love the hues and tone of this photo, in addition to the father and baby aspect (I'm a sucker for that kind of thing) I like how the shadows of their hands are seen. It's intimate and evokes a lot of feeling. Very well done.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/arjunpurky/110401445/ This photo immediately made me smile when I saw it. It triggers something inside of the viewer...you can see sincerity in this little cambodian girl's eyes...the photographer gave her a candy to take her picture. The girl was obviously quite pleased!
The lighting is appealing also. The colors look rich and clean. This was a very well captured moment of a human emotion and innocence. Perfect in my opinion!

I love this picture! It's well lit...the lighting is perfect. I like how the couple is dark in contrast with the background. The people in the background are not in focus, and allows all of your attention to be on the affectionate couple. The mirror effect of the water is gorgeous, too. This photo is so clean looking even though they're were people in the background. I thoroughly like this photo. I also like how they seem to be in a world of their own, they don't care about anybody around them....that's such a neat emotion to capture on film.

I'm constantly questioning my journalism choice. As much as I love words, I don't know that I'll enjoy having to be in the loop of current events all the time. I tend to do well with people, but also go into times of isolation. I enjoy my loner status sometimes, and sometimes I feel that when I'm isolating myself it's my way of preserving myself from the world. The world is full of so much corruption and negativity, that I frequently avoid it as much as physically possible.

I'm a moody person, and I have days that I want to be in the middle of it all, and other times when all I want is to be with my children and surround myself with good and wholesome things, or run to the coast to sit near the ocean.

Example: I don't watch television ever! The last time I watched t.v. was when Mr. Priewe at my college gave us an assignment where we had to review commercials on prime time t.v. That was a long time ago. I've not turned it on since. I don't have cable, and don't care to, either. I feel dirty and tainted inside myself when I watch it, even dumb. It's strange, it's a feeling I've never quite been able to articulate. I'd much rather read something at home, or listen to music. I love the sound of music in my house and the kids chattering while I cook dinner. My children don't watch t.v. either. We rent an occasional dvd, but, it's a big deal when we do...popcorn, licorice...the works! They love that! I don't like to let too much of the outside world enter my home.

Anyway, these are just a few of my concerns with journalism. There is so much that I like about it...but, other little things that I wonder about.

Heck, if I could actually make a decent stable living off of theater....I would just become a full time actress, and learn to to be other people all the time! That sounds delightful to me...I'd never get bored, and it would feed my moody character, I'd always get to change into someone else! :)
Photo Critique:

This is a picture of my daughter, Adrianna. I selected this photo because it really tells the viewer who she is! She "really" is this silly! She's a ham, and loves to show off as much as possible. This day she was romping around in her converse shoes in our culdesac, and when I called her name this is the look she made!
I like that in this picture the cracked pavement is visible...it adds some edge to this photo. It has a sweet, fun, and edgy feel all at the same time. I also like the clean background...there aren't cars or other people in view, just her. She's my theatrical little girl...my partner!
Photo Critique:

This is a photo of me. I was in my car feeling really sad and down and out, when a friend of mine approached my car and snapped this photo. I kept it because it really captured what I was feeling at that time...overwhelmed, hopeless, not sure of what my future holds, and lonely. I feel like this photo really shows that in my eyes. It was rainy out that night, and the lighting from the street lights cast a hue over my face that really highlights those emotions.

Woman with baby...

I absolutely love this picture. This woman seems strong, and yet, soft. She's holding her baby while balancing branches above her head. I like the black and white look of the picture. I like the way that the subject is darker in color than the background.
